Since youth accounts for around 1/3rd population of India, youth engagement becomes a vital process to achieve IWP’s vision of “a water-secure India”. The strategic objective for youth engagement is to aspire active contribution of the young population to create an enabling environment that engages youth in water resources management activities, develop the capacity of youth as future leaders within the water sector, and enhance youth voices across India. India Water Partnership aligned to its commitment towards the GWP’s Youth Strategy – ‘Unite and strengthen voices of youth for a water-secure world’, since 2015 reserves a part of its fund to engage the students and young professionals and include their voices to address water issues and restructure water management practices. All Youth Engagement activities at IWP are drawn on three pillars:
Mobilization of youth in water management and at the same time address the question of how stakeholders engaged in the water sector can leverage the expertise of youth to restructure water management practices as well as influence and support youth participation in water-related issues.
Sensitization and education of youth about water concerns and related issues through workshops, training, fellowships and other interactive sessions, imbibes a sense of responsibility among the young population for managing the water resources towards the goals of sustainability and self-reliance.
Dissemination of proper water education to masses in general through participation youth in could be useful in addressing the issues related to environment conflict, climate change and sustainable development.
