Institute for Development Initiatives (IDI) is a non-profit Society, which works to spread skills among the poor to meet basic human needs and empower them to achieve development. It strives to provide evidence-based policy input for the government and international development players, hold seminars and advocacy events, and manage developments projects. The thrust areas of IDI include participatory project planning, appraisal, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; documenting peoples' production practices and integrating them with modern technology in livelihood activities; standardizing and promoting participatory methodologies; networking with agencies engaged in development; developing prototype projects related to human habitations and environment, sanitation, health, nutrition, education, womens' empowerment, child development, indigenous people, disaster affected persons, unorganized labour, natural resources, energy, and the services sector; design improvement, skills up-gradation, productivity enhancement in the artisan sector, and marketing of products in arts and crafts and other micro-enterprises.
